The capital reported 224 new cases of coronavirus and no deaths on Saturday. The data collected by the state health department reflects the cases registered between 4 in the afternoon and 12 in the morning on May 8. The total number of positive cases in the city reached 6,542, with 68 deaths.
Meanwhile, three other private hospitals in the city with a capacity of 50 beds each have been authorized by the health department to admit confirmed and suspected Covid-19 cases. Hospitals added to the existing list of hospitals are Fortis Hospital: Shalimar Bagh, Saroj Medical Institute and Khushi hospital.
Two Delhi government hospitals, the Lok Nayak and Rajiv Gandhi Super Specialty Hospitals with a bed capacity of 2,000 and 500 respectively, previously became Covid-designated hospitals.
Recently, two more private hospitals – the Sir Ganga Ram City Hospital with 120 beds and the Maha Durga Charitable Trust Hospital with 100 beds – were asked to provide treatment for Covid-19 patients.
As of 12 am on May 9, the Delhi government conducted 84,226 tests for the disease.
After receiving multiple complaints about pendency in the test reports, the government formed a committee to inquire about the alleged discrepancies in Dr. Lal PathLabs’ test reports. “Some reports have turned out to be wrong and the committee is investigating the matter. Each laboratory must provide test reports within 24 hours, “Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain told reporters.
Dr. Arvind Lal, President and Managing Director of Dr. Lal PathLabs said: “We have received a communication from the Delhi government and we are providing full cooperation.”
Meanwhile, the Delhi government decided to provide accommodation for doctors working in the Covid service at the Rajiv Gandhi Super Specialty Hospital in three hotels in eastern Delhi. On Friday, the government also announced that the hospital’s services will be extended to two five-star hotels and one budget hotel.
The order stated: “The hospital is aimed at providing health care facilities at these hotels to Covid positive staff / officers who treat them as if admitted to the hospital. Serious patients may be transferred to the main hospital area.”
