Amid outrage in the country over the brutalization and gangrape of a young woman in Hathras of Uttar Pradesh, the state has reported another similar case. The young woman from Balrampur had died while being taken to a hospital in Lucknow. The post-mortem report has confirmed the gang rape, sources said, adding that she had died from the multiple injuries she suffered. There are no details yet on the nature of the injuries.
Two people have been detained in the case, one of them is a minor, the woman’s brother said.
The woman’s mother said she was abducted while on her way to work in the morning. When he did not return in time, the family had approached the police.
She returned around 7 p.m., the assailants loaded her onto an electronic rickshaw and sent her home, sources said.
“The men injected her with some substance so she lost consciousness. Then they raped her … They broke her back, broke her limbs. When my son returned, he could barely stand or speak,” said the woman’s mother. , crying.
“Somehow, crying, my daughter said: ‘Save me, I don’t want to die,'” said the mother.
He added that shortly after his return, his daughter complained of a burning pain in her stomach.
“The local hospital doctor said that her condition is serious and recommended that she be taken to Lucknow. But she died when we were near the city of Balrampur,” he added.
Former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav advised the Yogi Adityanath government not to attempt a “cover-up” as in the Hathras case.
“After Hathras, another gang rape incident has emerged in Balrampur in which the woman died after torture. The BJP government should not attempt a cover-up here like Hathras and should act swiftly against the accused,” his tweet read in hindi.
The Hathras woman, who was also a member of the Programmed Breeds, was assaulted on September 19 when she had gone to cut grass for fodder. Her assailants had left her in the field half strangled, with multiple fractures, with her tongue cut, naked, bleeding and paralyzed.
His body was cremated by the Uttar Pradesh police in the middle of the night. Her family was kept locked up and was not given the opportunity to take her home one last time and she was given a proper funeral.
The state has come under fire and public anger has risen over the issue.
Congress President Sonia Gandhi launched a scathing attack on the Yogi Adityanath government, saying it was “assassinated by a ruthless government” that was trying to “silence the matter.”
Strong comments have also come in from Delhi’s Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Mayawati of the Bahujan Samaj Party and Sanjay Raut of Shiv Sena.
The National Commission for Women has demanded a report from the state government and an appeal has been filed with the Supreme Court, requesting an investigation by the Central Investigation Office or a Special Investigation Team.
