A 21-year-old student was allegedly shot dead by two young women outside Aggarwal University here on Monday.

The defendant managed to flee after the murder. Although the cause of the murder has not yet been determined, the police have launched a manhunt to catch the culprits.

The incident took place around 3.30pm when the victim Nikita, a final year student of the B.Com course at the university, had left after appearing on the exam.

According to reports, the defendant after a verbal duel tried to put the girl inside a vehicle parked near the university gate in order to kidnap her but as she resisted, one of the defendants pulled out a revolver and shot her.

When the defendant fled the scene, the victim, a resident of SGM Nagar here, was pronounced dead when she was transferred to a hospital.

“The victim knew one of the accused identified as Tausif, originally from Sohna, and the victim’s relatives had filed a complaint against him a few months ago for sexual harassment and abuse, but a compromise had been reached”, said Jaiveer Rathi, ACP, Ballabgarh.

He said that while the exact cause of the murder has yet to be determined, he said the girl’s rejection of friendship could be the reason.

He said that while a forensic science team has collected evidence from the scene, both defendants are likely to be arrested soon.
