The long-awaited subcompact SUV Renault Kiger has finally been unveiled in production spec form, ahead of its scheduled launch later this year. With the Kiger, Renault India joins the bandwagon of SUVs under 4 meters and the new offering is based on the CMF-A + platform that has been jointly developed by Renault and Nissan. So yes, the new Kiger is a cousin of the recently launched Nissan Magnite that is getting some stellar reserve numbers since its launch in December 2020. The new Renault Kiger is based on the concept version that was introduced last year and almost the 80 percent. of the design issue has reached production as promised by the automaker. The Kiger is Renault’s second product after the Triber to be based on the CMF-A + platform. However, the design is completely new compared to its MUV brother. The subcompact SUV sports more dynamic design language from the split LED headlights to the bold grille with the LED DRLs covering the front. The model continues to sport pronounced wheel arches that accommodate 16-inch diamond-cut alloy steel wheels, depending on the variant. The arches at the rear are particularly widened and also incorporate the C-shaped LED taillights with the signature pattern. You’ll also see butch bumpers at each end with a skid plate at the rear, roof rails, and a roof-mounted spoiler at the rear to complete the look. The model also gets a great ground clearance of about 205mm.
Inside, the new Renault Kiger has a simple but feature-rich design. The model has an 8-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system, a 7-inch digital instrument console, climate control, engine start and stop, steering-mounted controls and more. There’s also the Arkamays 3D sound system, wireless charging, power moonroof, and rear AC vents with a 12-volt charging slot. The SUV has a two-tone themed cabin with cloth upholstery on the seats and door cushions. The trunk capacity is 405 liters with more than 29 liters of storage space in the cabin. The car will also have five accessory packages on offer, adding more features on top of the standard version.

The 2021 Renault Kiger is expected to go on sale in the middle of the year and prices will be extremely aggressive. It will be interesting to see if Renault will cut prices for the Magnite, at least in the introductory way. Expect the new Kiger to be priced at ₹ 5.50 lakh (ex-showroom) and up, making it one of the most affordable options in the segment. The model will compete against Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Toyota Urban Cruiser, Tata Nexon, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue and the like.
