DU 2020 admissions: Admissions for courses such as Political Science (Honors) and History (Honors) could be closed at some top-tier universities of the University of Delhi on the second cut list, principals said Thursday.
Admission under the first cut-off list ended at 5 p.m. Wednesday with colleges still in the process of approving admissions. As many as 29,746 students have paid the fees of 59,730 applicants, while 10,978 applications were approved Thursday.
The second cut list is likely to be released on Saturday.
Ramjas College principal Manoj Khanna said the university approved 1,054 admissions for nearly 2,000 available seats, while 700 applicants paid the fees.
Khanna said they have over-admitted students in BA Political Science (Honors), and in many combinations of BA programs for unreserved and even reserved categories and may not open for the second list.
In Political Science (Honors), the university has admitted 81 students against 18 openings, he said.
Similarly, at Hindu College, there are more than 700 applicants who have paid the fees. Courses such as Political Science (Honors) and History (Honors) might not open for the second list, according to university director Anju Srivastava. The university will hold a meeting on Friday to discuss the second cut list.
At Lady Shri Ram College For Women, Mathematics (Honors) might be closed for the second listing as there have been a large number of admissions to the course.
Gyantosh Jha, director of Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College, said that since Friday is the last date to make payments, they would know the exact status that day. However, he said the BA program had had a substantial number of applications. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the university team is carrying out the admissions process in a fully online mode. There are nearly 70,000 college student openings available on the varsity team. Rajdhani College Principal Dr. Rajesh Giri said they have admitted 450 students compared to 1,194 available places at the university.
In some courses like BA (Honors) History and BA (Honors) English, they have over-admitted students and may not be on the second cut list.
In English (Honors), the university has admitted 50 students versus 24 available seats in the unreserved category, while in the SC category, they have had 11 admissions versus eight seats, he said. Thirty-one students in the unreserved category have paid the fees.
In History (Honors), the university has admitted 29 students compared to 24 places available in the general category. Twenty-five students have paid the fees. There have been over-admissions even in the OBC and SC categories, he added.
At Hansraj College, B.Sc (honors) Mathematics and Anthropology (honors) might not make the second cut list.
