Lucknow: Days after the brutal lynching of two sadhus in the Palghar district of Maharashtra, two saints were found dead inside a temple in the village of Bulandshahar in Uttar Pradesh, Pagona. The incident came to light after locals discovered their blood-soaked bodies and reported to police. A man accused of robbery by priests has been arrested.
In statements to the media, SSP Bulandshehar Santosh Kumar said: “The incident took place in the village of Pagona, which is under the jurisdiction of the Anoopshehar police station. The two Jagdish priests and Sher Singh, who used to live in the temple, accused one of the locals, Murari alias Raju, of stealing the “chimta” (tong) and scolded him for the same thing a few days ago. ”
Kumar added that Murari arrived at the temple with a sword on Tuesday and killed the two saints. “The defendant is intoxicated and we are trying to extract more information about the incident,” he added.
District Magistrate Bulandshehar, said Ravindra Kumar, said that the accused had been arrested and that the locals had helped authorities catch the person.
“The accused has claimed that it was the will of God. He denied using a sword and claimed that he killed the priests with a stick lying in the temple, “said the district magistrate.
Prime Minister Yogi Adityanath learned of the incident and ordered district officials to arrive at the scene of the crime and report on the investigations. It also ordered strict measures against the accused.
Meanwhile, Congress Secretary-General Priyanka Gandhi attacked the state government over the law and order situation and demanded an impartial investigation into the matter.
“In the first 15 days of April, more than 100 people were killed in Uttar Pradesh. Three days ago, five members of the Pachouri family were found dead in mysterious circumstances in UP’s Etah district, no one knows what happened to them. Today, two priests were brutally murdered in Bulandshehar of UP. Such heinous crimes should be thoroughly investigated and no one should politicize the matter, “he said. Priyanka added that the government should guarantee an impartial investigation of the case.
The head of the Samajwadi party and former UP Prime Minister Akhilesh Yadav also condemned the killings and demanded a full investigation.
“The murder of two sadhus in Bulandshahar is sad and highly condemnable. Rather than politicizing the issue, extensive research should be done to determine criminality and violent behavior. Legal and timely measures should be taken based on this investigation. ”
