India reported 18,327 new coronavirus cases today and the count has risen to 1,11,92,088, while the number of recoveries has risen to 1,08,54,128, the Union Health Ministry said on Saturday.
The death count due to the viral disease has risen to 1,57,656 in the country with 108 more deaths reported in a 24-hour period, the ministry’s data showed.
The cumulative number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in India has crossed Rs 1.90 crore with 10.34,672 vaccine injections administered as of Friday evening, the Union Health Ministry said.
The nationwide vaccination campaign was launched on January 16 with vaccinated healthcare workers (TS) and vaccination of front-line workers (PDA) starting on February 2.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra reported 10,216 new coronavirus cases on Friday, the highest number of single-day cases in nearly five months, bringing its overall count to 21,98,399, a health department official said.
This is the first time since October 17, 2020, that the state’s single-day case count has surpassed the 10,000 mark.
As of October 17, the state had reported 10,259 cases. On Wednesday (March 3), there were 9,855 new cases, while Thursday’s infection count was 8,998.
The death count in the state rose to 52,393 with 53 deaths reported on Friday, the official said.

With the addition of 689 coronavirus cases, the infection count in Maharashtra’s Thane district rose to 2,68,319, an official said Saturday.
These new cases were reported on Friday, he said.
The virus killed six more people, bringing the death toll in the district to 6,296.
The district’s COVID-19 death rate is 2.35 percent, it added.

Mumbai reported 1,173 new COVID-19 cases, the highest peak in a day since October, on Friday, bringing its case count to 3,31,016, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation said.
The death count in the city rose to 11,490 and three new deaths were reported.
Since October 28, when the city reported 1,345 new cases, this is the first time Mumbai has witnessed such a high number of COVID-19 cases.
On February 24, the metropolis had reported 1,167 new cases of COVID-19.
