A 40-year-old businessman was arrested in the Satna district of Madhya Pradesh on charges of raping and blackmailing a 16-year-old girl. Police said the defendant had been blackmailing six more women.
The girl had come forward to file a police report last Friday (September 11). Satna Police Superintendent Riyaz Iqbal said the 16-year-old told Kolgawan police in the district that a man, who had introduced himself to her as Sameer, had been raping her for the past two years. He had threatened her if she reported the crime and had blackmailed her.
Sameer, alias Ateek, had passports in both names, was arrested Sunday after raids on his home, gym and internet cafe. The Satna district is 500 km from the state capital, Bhopal.
“The defendant had married a woman by converting to another religion, but then divorced her in 2017. He used to establish a relationship with women and then blackmail them. He minted a large amount of money from women through blackmail. These women shared their ordeal with the police during the investigation, but did not want to submit an FIR, ”said the Satna district police chief.
In raids on his premises, Riyaz Iqbal said that police teams also found fake letterheads in the names of members of Parliament and members of Parliament from Satna and Rewa.
“He used these letterheads to make out-of-shift reservations on trains under the VIP quota. The man was also involved in illegal money loans.
A special investigation team has been created to investigate the crimes committed by the accused, according to the SP.
