Eight workers died and more than 54 were injured after the truck they were traveling in was hit by a bus in the Guna of Madhya Pradesh early in the morning. The incident was reported hours after six migrant workers were hit by a bus on a highway in Uttar Pradesh.
In the fatal incident in Madhya Pradesh, the truck traveling from Maharashtra to Uttar Pradesh with around 70 workers was hit by a bus on a ring road in Guna, leaving eight dead. About 55-60 workers were also injured in the incident that took place around 3 a.m., police said. Most of the workers are from the Unnao district of Uttar Pradesh, they added.
The bus was traveling from Guna to Ahmedabad, police said, adding that only one driver and one cleaner were traveling.
“We were asleep when the incident occurred. There were between 55 and 60 people in the truck. The incident took place around 3 am,” said Sonu, a barourer.

“The incident took place on the Guna ring road. The workers were traveling from Mumbai to their hometown in Unnao in Uttar Pradesh. A bus was traveling from Guna to Ahmedabad. Three people are slightly injured. We are making efforts to send them to Unnao, “said a police officer.
In the other tragic Uttar Pradesh incident, six migrant workers were hit by a Uttar Pradesh government bus on a road in the Muzaffarnagar state district on Wednesday night. The workers had been walking to their hometown in Bihar from Punjab amid the coronavirus blockade, police said.
They added that the bus was empty and the driver is running away.
Accidents involving migrant workers walking home have been reported across the country in recent days. Last week, 16 migrant workers in a group of 20 were killed after a freight train ran over them while sleeping on the tracks in Aurangabad, Maharashtra.
