New Delhi:
Three people, including a minor, were allegedly hit by a high-speed cluster bus on Thursday night in the Nand Nagri area of northeast Delhi, police said.
Police received a call around 9:30 pm regarding the incident and rushed to the area opposite the Nand Nagri bus station on the road leading to the Bhaupura border.
According to the police, the bus, which has been seized, was heading towards the flyover near ITI, Nand Nagri.
“After arriving at the scene, the driver of the cluster bus, while descending the Mandoli overpass towards the Bhaupura border on the main Wazirabad road, was found to lose control of the vehicle,” said the deputy police commissioner ( northeast) Ved Prakash Surya.
The bus crossed the sidewalk to the left side and collided with a truck and then collided with an egg cart, he said.
The victims were taken to SDN Hospital, where Ravinder (22), a Loni resident in Ghaziabad, Karan (12), a Mandoli resident and an unidentified person (40) were declared dead, DCP said.
While Kanchan (35), a resident of Mandoli, Satish (45) and Sujeet (16), a resident of Loni received injuries and are being treated, police said.
The bus driver managed to escape the scene. A case has been registered in the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and efforts are being made to arrest him, they said.
After the incident, the locals gathered at the scene and allegedly destroyed the bus.
They created chaos at the scene, however police said the situation has been brought under control.
