12 more people from BSF in Tripura test positive for Covid-19

Twelve BSF soldiers at Tripura tested positive for Covid-19 on Sunday the day after two others from the same battalion tested positive, authorities said.

Tripura now has 14 active Covid-19 cases.

All of them were from the 138th BSF Battalion, Ambassa unit in Dhalai district. Of Tripura’s eight districts, two districts: Gomati and North are in the orange zone.

Ambassa in the Dhalai district was not in an orange zone.

The state’s nodal officer for Covid-19, Dr. Deep Kumar Debbarma, said that these 12 soldiers have remained isolated in the BSF camp.

“We are planning to turn the camp into a center of attention. Nearly 300 BSF people were sampled from the field for analysis. Their reports are expected to arrive on Monday, ”he said.

Prime Minister Biplab Kumar Deb took to Twitter to announce the latest infections.

“Alert! 12 people from the 138th unit # BSF Ambassa found # COVID19 positive. Total # COVID19 positive cases of n Tripura stands at 16 (2 already discharged, so active cases: 14). Do not panic Follow government guidelines. We are working closely for your safety, “he tweeted.

Previously, the state had reported two cases of Covid-19. Both were recovered last month. The first patient tested positive on April 6 after she returned to Assam state. She was released from the hospital on April 16.

The second patient, a jawan Tripura State Rifles (TSR) who had traveled with the first patient on a train, tested positive on April 10. He was released on April 25.
