According to sources, the truck carrying 27 pilgrims from Surat collided with a container truck around 3 in the morning because the pilgrims’ truck was completely destroyed. Firefighters were called in to help the pilgrims get out of the truck. Sources from the fire department said that many of the pilgrims were unconscious and all were rushed to SSG Hospital.
Seven people were pronounced dead upon admission and four more later died. Among the injured are four men, five women and two children. Sources said the pilgrims were residents of the Godadara and Puna areas of Surat and had started at 11pm towards Pavagadh. After visiting the Pavagadh temple, they had planned to go further to Dakor before returning to Surat. Subsequently, some injured people were transferred to a private hospital for further treatment.
“Hospital staff are treating the injured. They were all going to Pavagadh from Surat, ”said district collector Shalini Agrawal.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over a road accident in Gujarat‘s Vadodara and said that the administration is providing all possible assistance to those in need.
