Former Union Minister and congressional leader Shashi Tharoor called on the country’s citizens to stay home and stay safe amid the Covid-19 pandemic, stressing that isolation at home it was the only way to fight the deadly infection.
Often called one of India’s favorite politicians for his wit and erudition, Tharoor joined the Fever Network’s ‘100 Hours 100 Stars’ initiative from his home in Thiruvananthapuram in the midst of the shutdown. He explained how an instinct made him prevent his mother from traveling to his home in Kochi just before the closure was imposed in March. The congressional leader is spending quality family time during the confinement with his mother and sister in Kerala.
“I have been very busy with my duties as a Member of Parliament throughout the fight against the coronavirus. Several of my constituents sought help even before the blockade was imposed. We received a series of appeals from people in Kerala who were stranded in other cities or countries, including fishermen and students. We have provided test kits and protective medical equipment to several front-line workers at the bottom of my MP, “Tharoor said.
“We also had migrant workers, who were eager to return to their homes in Bihar and Bengal … I addressed them in Hindi and Bengali and asked them to stay where they should be safe and avoid infection,” said Thiruvananthapuram congressman. .
In an effort to show solidarity to those affected by Covid-19, the Fever Network is committed to uniting people against this fight with the global pandemic. Starting May 2, Fever Network will launch “100 Hours 100 Stars”, the largest digital festival in history. Through this festival, the network celebrates and praises front-line workers who risk their own lives to safeguard the lives of others.
The festival would be filled with performances, interviews and more world stars from their homes as they isolate themselves during this health crisis. The campaign aims to raise funds that would later go to Covid-19 relief efforts.
