Maharashtra Interior Minister Anil Deshmukh on Friday trained weapons at the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is investigating the death of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput, saying people have been waiting for the results of the investigation of the agency on the case.
“#SushantSinghRajput died by suicide or was he murdered? Mumbai police were investigating very well when suddenly the case was handed over to CBI. They should tell us the result as soon as possible ”, he was quoted by the ANI news agency.
The central agency took over the Mumbai Police investigation in late August on instructions from the Supreme Court after a brief period of war of words between the Maharashtra and Bihar governments over the actor’s death in June.
“The Central Bureau of Investigation is conducting a professional investigation related to the death of Shri Sushant Singh Rajput in which all aspects are being analyzed and no aspects have been ruled out to date,” said CBI spokesman RK Gaur, earlier this week. Gaur’s comment came days after the Rajput family expressed their disgust at the pace of the investigation into the 34-year-old’s death.
Mumbai police were investigating the death earlier. He had filed an Accidental Death Report (ADR) and had said the actor died by suicide. However, the Rajput family were not satisfied with their investigation, after which the actor’s father, KK Rajput, filed a complaint against Rhea Chakraborty and her family members accusing them of driving his son to suicide.
A team from Bihar then came to Mumbai to investigate the case, sparking a war of words between the two state governments.
CBI has so far questioned several people, including Chakroborty, his brother Showik, Rajput cook Neeraj Singh, his roommate Siddharth Pitani and his former manager Samuel Miranda. The agency also made several visits to the late actor’s apartment in Bandra, Mumbai, where he was found dead on June 14.
He also enlisted the assistance of the Indian Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in the case that followed, in which a five-member forensic team was formed to examine autopsy files related to the Rajput death.
The CBI is investigating the actor’s death while the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) and the Bureau of Narcotics Control (NCB) are investigating the money laundering and drug-related angles in the case, respectively. Rhea Chakraborty, her brother, and several others have been arrested by NCB in connection with their investigation of the case.
