The government said the ban was in the interest of national security. But the ever-growing blacklist also underscores the broader Indian efforts to reduce its dependence on its neighbor’s products, and thwarts efforts by China’s largest corporations to go beyond their own borders. Tensions between the two giant Asian economies have been rising since a clash on the Himalayan border earlier this year killed 20 Indian soldiers and an unknown number of Chinese soldiers.
