Bands of smoke over our continent can also be clearly seen in satellite images. In Hungary, streaks of smoke are most visible in the sky at sunrise and sunset.

According to a report by idokep.hu, the devastating and catastrophic wildfires and scrub fires on the west coast of the US engulfed the Pacific coast in a huge cloud of smoke. Smoke is increasingly spread in the atmosphere by high-altitude currents and has already reached Europe thanks to the jet stream (continuous flow) that blows from west to east.

Clearly, bands of smoke appeared in a satellite image of Europe at dawn on Saturday. The lanes that cross the container from Batikum to Spain (as measured by LIDAR in Germany) are at an altitude of about 5000-9000 meters.

In addition to satellite images, the characteristic signs of smoke in the atmosphere that we can also observe are the most colorful sunrises and sunsets caused by the scattering of sunlight below the horizon on tiny solid particles. According to the predictions of the model shown by NOAA above, more and more doses of smoke may arrive from the US in the coming days, so it is expected to appear more and more prominently in the morning skies and the sunset in Hungary too.
