Norbert Wikonkál, director general of the Hungarian Army Health Center, said the 26-year-old police officer suffered serious, life-threatening injuries and had to carry out life-saving interventions.

“The luck and the lives of the doctors providing the care had passed,” said the CEO, noting that if a larger vessel had been stabbed, the man could have bled rapidly and when he got to the hospital, they could no longer help him. . He also called it important that the care was provided by a team of doctors who, as military doctors, also have extensive experience treating injuries on the battlefield.

News of his colleague, who is already in better shape, was also posted on his Facebook page by police on Saturday afternoon.

Kristóf Gál, spokesman for the National Police Headquarters, said at a press conference on Thursday that a confused man had attacked in the IV. district, on the staircase of one of the condominiums on Kassai Street to the arriving patrol couple, and stabbed the male police officer several times. His partner, a 23-year-old sergeant, fired multiple shots at the attacker, a 35-year-old man from South Church who died at the scene.
