A few hundred supporters sang during the night in support of SZFE. Students from the largest Hungarian universities came to show their solidarity.

There is growing resistance from students and professors to the erosion of the autonomy of the University of Theater and Film Arts (SZFE) due to the government’s decision to continue the university as a foundation under Attila Vidnyánszky. More and more world-famous artists are joining the solidarity movement around SZFE, but the Vidnyánszky family is not expanding. You can follow the latest news from the SZFE scandal in our article series.

The barricade on Vas Street for the students of the University of Theater and Film Arts (SZFE) lasts thirty-one days. The notice period of several university leaders expired on October 1, they said goodbye to them on Wednesday night – as reported by hvg.hu, László Bagossy, Gábor Balázs, Máté Gáspár, György Karsai, Németh were on duty at the building of Vas street for half an hour. Gábor, Eszter Novák and László Upor. They were supported in part by students and in part by a demonstration organized by the Secret University movement in University Square.

The number of demonstrations supporting the SZFE is growing, and only a few hundred gather in the University Square alongside them. However, this hard core was recruited from as many different circles as possible: almost all faculties of the Eötvös Loránd University were represented by students and, according to the organizers, students from the University of Szeged also arrived. Some people painted the name of a university that was officially distancing itself from positioning itself in the SZFE, but students from the Pázmány Péter Catholic University, the Károli Gáspár Reformed University and the Corvinus University also showed up.

There were no previously announced speakers at the event, Pál Mácsai, the director of the Örkény Theater, spoke briefly. According to Mácsai, “It is not true that [az SZFE hallgatói] they do not respect, love and fear their homeland and its most beautiful traditions and culture. However, it is true that they are not afraid. It is true, however, that they are embarking on something, that they are acting, and it is also true that they have lacked a lot of solidarity around them. (…) mainly from his peers and other college students. “However, he added that

in vain they felt that they themselves received little, they gave much to many, to the generation before them ”.

After 11 p.m., a delegation of about twenty SZFE students arrived at University Square. They marched from Vas Street to the plaza with torches, where they were greeted with applause, songs and yellow roses. The Performing Arts students reaffirmed what they had said a few hours before in front of their university: they will not give up their blockade, they will not allow new leaders and managers, and they will continue to support their teachers’ strike on October 1. The vigil at the Secret University was announced until six in the morning, read by contemporary authors since midnight, and the bands entertained the public.

However, the students ‘requests fell on deaf ears again: Attila Vidnánszky told the public on Wednesday night who the new vice-rectors of the SZFE would be, according to him, contrary to the students’ assertions, the board operated legally and its Decisions complied with regulations. Vidnyánszky also voiced his assumption that a small minority at the university would generate controversy.
