Among the countries in the Central European region, the Czech Republic has the fastest growing number of patients.

Coronavirus: the second wave

Half a year after the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in the spring, the second wave of the pandemic has arrived. The radical increase in the number of infected is forcing more and more countries to re-impose restrictions, despite the fact that the world economy has not even recovered from the effects of the spring outbreak. According to the posters, the second wave also reached Hungary. Follow our news!

The number of new coronavirus infections per day in the Czech Republic has reached a record high. The Ministry of Health reported on Saturday morning that 798 new confirmed coronavirus infections had been detected the previous day, which is 118 more than the highest number of cases the day before. On Thursday, 680 people were infected.

The number of daily cases has increased since Sept. 1, faster than in the spring. In recent days, the Czech Republic has the fastest growing number of patients in the Central European region, according to the Czech news agency.

Since March 1, when the first infection was detected, more than 27,000 people have been infected in the Czech Republic. 429 people died from complications of the virus-induced Covid-19 disease, while more than 19,000 were cured. The number of active infections is about 7,800.

There are currently 190 people in need of hospital treatment, less than three percent of the patients. It is worrying that the number of serious cases is increasing. According to the ministry, 44 of the patients treated at the hospital require intensive care and a ventilator.

Since Tuesday, the use of a mask is mandatory in health and social institutions, offices, public transport and polling stations. However, in the case of a positive test, the mandatory quarantine has been reduced from two weeks to ten days.

The official’s medical service announced this Thursday that in Prague, which is currently the most dangerous local source of infection, the use of a mask will be mandatory in shops from next Wednesday and in schools from the middle of the month. According to the press, a greater adjustment is expected in the coming days.

Several Czech ministers and parliamentarians are also in quarantine because they have become ill or have come into contact with infected people. The epidemic will not spare artists or athletes either. The corona virus test was positive for István Margita, an internationally renowned Hungarian-born Czech opera singer and his wife Hana Zagorova, who is one of the legends of Czech light music. The 73-year-old singer is being treated for a high fever in a Prague hospital.

On August 31, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó spoke about the fact that the Visegrad countries (Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary) had been particularly successful in defending the first wave of the coronavirus, and in close cooperation with each other . It was then decided that Czechs, Poles and Slovaks who had previously booked their accommodation in Hungary could enter Hungary with a negative test – no more than five days – while Hungarians who had previously booked accommodation in the Visegrád countries would have a test negative after returning home.
