Although the number of new diseases per day has also been halved in Austria, the Health Minister says a difficult period could come due to Christmas.

Coronavirus: the second wave, the second closure

Later than expected by many, but in mid-November, the Hungarian government also decided to try to curb the second wave of the coronavirus epidemic by introducing restrictions. At the time of the decision, 5,000 new infections had been identified per day and the number of deaths from the virus mostly ranged from 50 to 100 in 24 hours. The first step is partial closure, but how effective it is is questionable. Follow our news!

After nearly three weeks of full shutdown, the numbers for the coronavirus epidemic in Austria have improved, but that shouldn’t fool anyone, Health Minister Rudolf Anschober said on Thursday. “Perhaps the worst four weeks of the epidemic are ahead,” the minister referred to the Christmas holidays and the period until the start of vaccination.

The reproduction rate R has been reduced to less than 1, which means that ten infected people transmit the coronavirus infection to an average of less than 10 people. The number of new diseases per day has also been cut in half. The number of daily deaths is still high, but that is because the results are two weeks late, the minister said.

There are 3,780 people in need of hospital care and 585 people currently in need of intensive care in Austria, a slight improvement. Despite improving the data, Anschober cautioned the public to adhere to existing protective measures and keep social contacts to a minimum to avoid overloading hospitals. “Perhaps the worst four weeks of the epidemic await us,” the minister referred to the Christmas holidays and the period until the vaccination began.

According to Anschober, the number of new diseases must be further reduced to reduce the number of people hospitalized and those in need of intensive care. Permanent congestion in intensive care units cannot be increased indefinitely, since postponed surgeries will also have to be introduced and the peak of the flu epidemic is not expected until January, the minister added.

Anschober again asked the public to participate as much as possible in the massive tests. “Half an hour everyone can sacrifice their lives for this.” – He said.

In Austria’s western provinces Tyrol and Vorarlberg, the massive tests were held the previous weekend with a meager 30 percent turnout. In Burgenland, screenings started today, while the other provinces will join in over the weekend. Meanwhile, selective examinations are also taking place among educators, health workers and police officers.

In Austria, 2,686 people have been diagnosed with the virus in the last 24 hours and 311,365 cases have been recorded since the outbreak began. 107 people died from complications from the disease caused by the infection last day, bringing the death toll to 4,163.

The government released the Austrian laboratory just when it was proven successful

With a total shutdown of less than a month, the number of new cases per day in Austria fell from 10,000 to 3,000, faithfully followed by the management of the epidemic in Hungary until mid-November. This is over: after Viktor Orbán’s announcement, it is clear that we have launched the Austrian sample. However, the Hungarian government can be at great risk during the festive period.

Voluntary mass testing to curb the coronavirus epidemic in Austria is in its third day, but initial interest has clearly waned on Sunday, with far fewer people attending the test stations on Saturday than on the first day.
