Half a year after the spring outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, the second wave of the pandemic has arrived. The radical increase in the number of infected is forcing more and more countries to re-impose restrictions, despite the fact that the world economy has not even recovered from the effects of the spring outbreak. The number of people infected with the coronavirus in Austria increased by 7,416 in one day, the Austrian Interior Ministry said on Thursday. There are currently 2,737 Covid-19 patients treated in Austrian hospitals, 407 of whom are in the intensive care unit. The number of active infections exceeds fifty thousand.

The most affected provinces are Lower and Upper Austria with 1,053 and 1,540 cases, respectively, and Vienna with 1,231 positive results in one day. 233 were identified in Burgenland, 338 in Carinthia, 497 in Salzburg, 987 in Styria, 828 in Tyrol and 709 in Vorarlberg in the last 24 hours.

In Austria, with a population of nine million, 132,515 people have been identified since the outbreak, of whom 1,268 have died and 80,604 have recovered.
