coronavirus pandemic

There are already more than a million people infected with the coronavirus in the world, around 70,000 have lost their lives due to the disease and the economic impact is unpredictable. It’s also hard to keep track of events, but we try to keep our readers informed about everything. Stay tuned, read our series of articles.

New York state has more than 7,000 deaths from the new type of coronavirus infection, state Governor Andrew Cuomo said at his daily news conference on Thursday.

Cuomo said Wednesday that at least 799 people died in the state from the virus-induced Covid-19 disease.

He also reported that about 18,000 patients are currently seen in state hospitals, most of them in New York City. However, the number of people seen in intensive care units, as he said, is decreasing. He saw this as a “good sign,” as well as the fact that, in his opinion, the curve of the epidemic had become somewhat flatter. Although, he added, the practice of social exclusion should not be alleviated. “We cannot let ourselves go,” he declared.

The governor did not respond to strong criticism in The New York Times that he and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio reacted late and badly to the outbreak in the state on March 1. According to the newspaper, both the governor and the mayor promised immediate action, but he never took those steps. The newspaper brought up the case of a 39-year-old woman who returned to New York from Doha, Qatar, and tested positive for the virus. However, the necessary measures were not taken to isolate or contact the infected woman.

At the press conference, Cuomo employee Melissa DeRosa reported that around 810,000 people in the state have applied for unemployment benefits in the past three weeks.

Anthony Fauci, a member of the task force that coordinates government action on the epidemic and director of the National Institute of Allergological and Communicable Diseases, told CBS television on Thursday:

access restrictions must be maintained, but in some parts of the United States these restrictions are likely to be lifted in the summer.

According to Johns Hopkins University and Hospital in Baltimore at noon Thursday, 432,596 people were diagnosed in the United States and 14,831 Americans died from the disease caused by the virus.

Meanwhile, virus tests were conducted on the Theodore Roosevelt aircraft carrier stationed in Guam, and more than 400 crew members were found to be infected with the new type of coronavirus. This is the ship whose captain, Brett Crozier, wrote a letter to his superiors asking them for help in evacuating the crew. The letter appeared in the San Francisco Chronicle and Crozier was later acquitted. However, due to the case, he had to resign Thomas Modly, the commander of the Navy, this week because he called the captain “stupid.”

After New Jersey, the morgues in Chicago also filled up.

In the city, 14 refrigerated trailers were purchased to be installed next to the hospitals and converted into a huge refrigerated warehouse for a morgue where two thousand bodies could be placed at the same time.

According to press reports, the President of the United States, Donald Trump, intends to establish another working group that will exclusively deal with the economic recession caused by the epidemic.

Jerome Powell, head of the Federal Reserve System (Fed) as the central bank in the United States, expects an early economic recovery. The Fed president spoke about this in a video conference at the Brookings Institute on Thursday. However, he emphasized that starting a reboot of the economy depends on when the coronavirus epidemic subsides.
