In the Czech Republic, the use of a mask in public places will also be mandatory from Wednesday due to the coronavirus epidemic. This was decided by the Czech government on Monday, Health Minister Roman Prymula announced at a post-government press conference.

The use of masks will also be mandatory in cars. The exceptions to this are if only family members are together on the street or in the car, or if people are playing sports. The mask has been mandatory for a few weeks in closed spaces and public transport.

Roman Prymula said the government would not discuss a possible complete shutdown of the Czech economy this week.

The Czech Republic has been in a state of emergency since the beginning of October. Schools, restaurants, clubs are closed and cultural and sporting events are also suspended. Thousands of people protested the precautionary measures in Prague on Sunday.

The coronavirus epidemic is rapidly spreading across the country. According to the latest figures, 3,721 people are already being treated at the hospital, with more than 1,500 deaths on Monday night. There are currently about 104,000 active confirmed infections in the Czech Republic.
