Eight young people between the ages of 18 and 19 died of carbon monoxide poisoning on New Year’s Eve at a home in Bosnia and Herzegovina, local authorities said Friday.

The police were called by the neighbors, who arrived in the morning, became suspicious and therefore broke down the door, but only found corpses.

There are many weekend houses and holiday homes in the area, which have been rented on New Years Eve because the nightclubs are closed, but many buildings do not have traditional heating and in many places they do not even have electricity. When a gas heater or other combustion heater is permanently installed in a room, it quickly consumes oxygen, which is replaced by insidiously murderous, colorless, odorless, and deadly toxic carbon dioxide.
