Parts of France, Italy, Switzerland and Austria are also affected by heavy rains and floods.

In Italy the death toll rose to seven on Sunday after five bodies were found on a stretch of the Ligurian coast. They were probably washed away by a swollen river, so their corpses could have reached the sea. On the other hand, most of the people reported missing on Saturday were lucky enough to show up on Sunday.

The situation is particularly serious in Piedmont. There has been an unprecedented amount of rain in some parts of northwestern Italy for 60 years. In Venice, however, it successfully overcame its first live deployment of the dam system, which was recently put into operation, and St. Mark’s Square remained dry despite the high water level.

France in the southern part of Nice, several settlements were cut off from the outside world at the time of the trial. They can’t find eight people. French Prime Minister Jean Castex announced on Saturday that soldiers would be mobilized to deal with the situation.

In Austria a four-year-old boy died because a tree fell on him.

In Switzerland one of the main roads had to be closed on Saturday.
