The restrictions will remain in effect until at least February 8, but tourism cannot resume even in February.

Coronavirus – the second year

More than a year has passed since the Chinese authorities informed the WHO about the emergence of a new, rapidly spreading virus. Since then, there has hardly been a person in the world who has not heard the term Covid-19, and more and more people are mourning the family member or friend with whom the new disease ended as stocks collapsed in weeks and our entire lives. they were rewritten by the epidemic. By now, the vaccines have been completed, which in turn raises not only hope, but again many questions, while not only stopping the virus, but also threatening another mutation. You can find the details of this fight in our series of articles.

Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz announced at a press conference on Sunday that the closures due to the coronavirus epidemic will be extended, which are currently scheduled to begin on February 8, Reuters reports.

Kurz, however, added that sectors such as tourism or gastronomy will not be able to restart even in February.

With the restrictions taking effect, it is no longer a requirement to maintain a distance of one meter, but a distance of two meters whenever possible, and it is not mandatory to wear FFP2 masks instead of fabrics in public transport and shops. Additionally, residents are asked to work from home whoever they can.

The restrictions are intended to reduce the number of new illnesses to less than 700 per day; now this is about twice the daily average.

In a country of 8.9 million, only the vital stores are already open. To date, 390,000 coronavirus infections have been recorded in the country and nearly 7,000 deaths. Kurz said he is aware that the regulations are unpopular, but they are necessary because a new mutation has also appeared in the coronavirus in Austria that is spreading faster.
