Coronavirus – the second year

It has been more than a year since the Chinese authorities informed the WHO of the emergence of a new, rapidly spreading virus. Since then, there has hardly been a person in the world who has not heard the term Covid19, and more and more people are mourning the family member or friend with whom the new disease ended as stocks collapsed within weeks and our entire lives were rewritten. by the epidemic. By now, the vaccines have been completed, which in turn raises not only hope, but again many questions, while not only stopping the virus, but also threatening another mutation. You will find the details of this fight in our series of articles.

Contrary to previous plans, the full closure of the coronavirus epidemic in Austria will run until January 24, as the upper house of parliament (Bundesrat) did not vote on Monday on the ruling coalition’s proposal to open on January 18. January.

The original plan of the government was that those who put themselves to the test during the weekend of January 16 to 17 visit the commercial and catering facilities, the cultural and sports facilities reopened by then from the 18 with negative results. Anyone who had not been tested would have been quarantined for another week, until January 24. However, as the smaller provincial upper house of delegates in parliament, in which the opposition has a narrow majority, did not vote on the bill, the government was forced to extend the total shutdown for a week.

The 24-hour curfew, with exceptions such as commuting, patient care, basic needs and personal sports, remains in effect. The opening of the schools was not part of the voted decree, so the ministry said that the schools would start the second semester with distance learning on January 7, and then the children could return to school starting on January 18, as the Austrian newspaper Der Standard learned.

Health Minister Rudolf Anschober said at a news conference Monday afternoon that an English mutation in the SARS2 coronavirus had also been identified in Austria. Four people, three of whom were children, had the British mutation and a 30-year-old woman had the South African variant.

The minister said the five had arrived in the country by plane just before Austria imposed a travel ban on Britain.
