On October 20, more than two weeks ago, the Society for Freedoms (HCLU) submitted a detailed data request to the National Center for Public Health. Data were requested to provide an overview of the current status of the epidemic: the spatial distribution of identified coronavirus infections, patients recovering in hospital and at home.
The NNK awaited the end of the 15-day period available for public interest data requests and sent a response to the HCLU on Thursday. That’s not.
No information was provided that would have answered questions from the law enforcement organization.
In response to most of the questions, the already known epidemiological information pages were linked: koronavirus.gov.hu, and even the Facebook page called “Coronavirus Information Page”, which says that the required data can already be found there.
However, there were requests for data that, as an epidemiological authority, they simply replied that they could not comply because they did not have data “in the required breakdown”.
Thus, the Hungarian epidemiological authority wrote to Cecília Müller, signed by a national chief physician, that she could not provide data on the epidemic by district or by age and sex of those infected, nor could she say the rate of reproduction of the infection (i.e. , showing how many other people an infected person transmits the virus) on October 19, the date of the data request.
According to the letter, the NNK also has no data on how many of the infected patients seen at the hospital on a given day needed intensive care and how many of the hospital beds, including intensive care, were reserved and occupied for COVID-patients. 19. Also, the total and proportional number of deaths by county in the infection.
According to the HCLU, “two things can follow from this: one is that they are telling the truth and have no idea what the viral situation is like; the other is that they are aware of the tragedy that would unfold before us if we could know the data. ” In their statement, they wrote, they do not accept that the epidemiological case is keeping the details secret from the public.
