Will the epidemic end this year? WHO has issued a disappointing opinion

“In my opinion, it is very early and it is unlikely to think that we will overcome this virus by the end of the year,” Ryan said at a news conference Tuesday. “What we can do, however, if we are smart is to end hospitalizations and deaths, a tragedy in the context of a pandemic,” he added.

The WHO is currently focusing on minimizing the infection rate and vaccinating as many people as possible against the coronavirus.

As for vaccine shipments, the situation has already improved for 10 weeks, although there are “enormous challenges” in its distribution and the advantage remains with the virus, said the WHO emergency director. “If vaccines begin to affect not only deaths and not only hospitalizations, but also have a significant impact on the dynamics of spread and its risk, then I think we will be closer to keeping the pandemic under control,” he added.
