The Csongrád County Prosecutor’s Office has charged three men who smuggled 18 kilograms of marijuana from Serbia to Hungary in August 2018 by transporting the drug across the border with Hungary.
According to the indictment, the defendants had known each other for a long time and worked together at a company in Szeged. Using their connection and resources in Serbia, they decided to smuggle drugs into Hungary, taking advantage of the skills of one of them in motor paragliding, the Attorney General’s Office wrote in a statement.
They took a field trip, looking for a hiding place
To this end, starting in May 2018, they crossed the Serbian side of the border multiple times to explore suitable terrain for takeoff, which was eventually found near Horgos. Later, on the night of August 13, 2018, they traveled to Novi Sad and obtained the 17 packages of approximately 18 kilograms of marijuana placed in a black bag. The drug was hidden next to a landfill and returned to Hungary. Then, two days later, they traveled back to Serbia, transporting the marijuana from the hiding place to the collection point next to Horgos, hiding it again and returning home.
Engine failure, crash landing, bad luck.
Approximately two weeks later, on August 30, crossing the border again in two separate cars, they went to the launch site next to Horgos, where they armed the paraglider and waited for the darkness. At 8 o’clock at night, one of the defendants took the motorized paraglider with the drug and ten minutes later flew over the Serbian-Hungarian border crossing (this is the southern border fence built in 2015 due to immigrants) an ed.), but on reaching the Hungarian side, the engine failed, first jumped and then stopped. Therefore, the accused made a forced landing about 600 meters from the border line in a field near a forest strip near Tiszasziget.
The defendant sustained a coccyx fracture during landing, but still had the strength to hide the drug among the trees before border guards who detected the illegal border crossing arrived at the scene. He tried to hide in the undergrowth, but was found and transported to the hospital due to his condition. Police did not find and confiscated the drug the next day, during a clear inspection the next day, the prosecution said in detail.

The pure active ingredient content of the smuggled marijuana exceeded the lower limit of a particularly significant amount, approximately one and a half times.
The Attorney General’s Office accuses the defendant of possessing a particularly significant amount of drugs and of illegally crossing the border, the Szeged Court will decide on his guilt, read in the statement.
