The popularity of OLED TVs grows year by year, but we are still a long way from being able to really talk about mass production. The reason for this is mainly the price, as the image quality produced by the process is really excellent. As the number one supporter and survivor of the technology, LG launched the cheapest OLED TV of the year in the person of BX after several special but expensive models in the fall of 2020.
How is your picture?
The peculiarity of OLED TVs is that the intensity of the light can be controlled individually in each pixel (there are 3840 x 2160 pieces), or it can even be turned off completely. As a result, it is possible to create the perfect black (since when there is no light, it is COMPLETELY dark) and, as a result, infinite contrast ratio.
An added benefit of this solution is that LED LCD TVs don’t have the consistent backlight brightness that is still experienced today, making colors appear brighter and more pronounced.
Based on measurements made with an instrument called a colorimeter for testing shades, we concluded that with proper settings, shades deviate only minimally from industry standards. As a result, the product is even suitable for professional graphic work.
The maximum refresh rate of the model can vary from 40 to 120 Hz. Therefore, the panel guarantees to show so many frames per second that there is no better value today. This also means that the device supports the use of a variable refresh rate, that is, it always works exactly with the number of frames arriving from the connected device, such as a computer or a console. This can be very important during gameplay as it eliminates the image error caused by doubling the frames and you can forget about the annoying refraction effect of the image. By the way, no other disturbing abnormalities are observed during motion display. The product produced no ghosting, stuttering, or blurring. The LG BX has 4K resolution, which in 2020 we see is perfect enough for everything, especially in this 55-inch category.
Therefore, there is no problem with details, and the device also supports the display of high dynamic range videos, movies and games. Since the maximum brightness reaches 700 nits, the display of such HDR content is spectacular enough. The fact that the manufacturer’s more expensive and high-end devices perform significantly better in this area, but this can be happily overcome.
How is your voice
In the case of the LG BX, the engineers stayed in addition to the traditional solution, which means that this device also got hidden speakers. The 40-watt integrated sound system is louder than average and has two built-in woofers. As a result, deep sounds can be heard better than usual.
But regardless, it remains a fact that the sound quality is not perfect. The stereo sound field is not really perceptible and the dynamics could be more specific. However, it is also true that the device did not produce annoying sound errors.
It is worth noting that the product has received LG’s exclusive calibration technology, which is capable of concentrating the best possible sound quality at a desired point in the room using a microphone located on the remote control. Of course, there is also a lack of pre-optimized sound modes, among which there is one that emphasizes speech. This can be very useful in the case of movies and series, if for some reason we do not hear the dialogue clearly enough.
Very smart tv
For years LG has been enthusiastically developing its own unique smart TV system, webOS, which covers all device handling. The system is transparent, airy, you can also speak Hungarian, its use can not cause any problems even for those who move abroad in the universe of electronic devices. The remote control has been a well-proven accessory called the Magic Remote for years. A special feature of this is that it is equipped with motion sensors, so you can control the arrow on the screen by pointing in the air. This may seem a bit unusual at first, but you will soon be able to start browsing.
One of the main extras of the webOS 5.0 system is that it allows the TV to be easily integrated into a smart home system. Devices connected to it can be controlled and monitored through the TV. Another interesting extra is the so-called sports alarm function. As part of this, you can enter a favorite team or league, and when a current match starts, the TV will automatically notify you. In addition, the model is capable of displaying the result on the screen, even if we are not watching the game. Another interesting extra is the so-called screen mirroring. This allows images from mobile devices that support Miracast technology to be displayed wirelessly, virtually at the touch of a button, on a large TV screen without the use of a cable.
Elegant look
LG offers extravagant-looking OLED TVs, but the BX has left decision makers with a sleek and understated design trend. Thanks to its sleek, frost-free appearance, it’s not as flashy as its more expensive counterparts, but that may not be a problem. As a result, it can be harmoniously integrated into practically any type of interior.
There is no reason to complain about the inputs and outputs, you have everything you need to connect a game console, DVD or Blu-ray player, computer or external audio system quickly and easily. Even the latest generation HDMI 2.1 connectors haven’t gotten rid of the product, which may be especially important for those who would use this TV for gaming.
Price
The 55-inch version of the LG BX currently costs 350,000 guilders, making it one of the cheapest OLED TVs this year. However, the relatively low price is not very visible in the product knowledge. Image quality is simply superb, handling is excellent, and there is no particular problem with sound quality.
