Extreme cold is forecast to arrive by the end of the week, so water meters, water pipes and fittings will need to be winterized, the Hungarian Water Companies Association told MTI on Monday.
It has been written that it is important to drain the water network and water meters in uninhabited properties in winter, as well as to cover and insulate the water meter shaft, but it is also recommended to check it regularly to avoid possible damage.
They added that for properties that are inhabited even in winter, it is important that the water meter well is insulated. It is also advisable to protect the cable sections that are in a less protected place (basement, outside the wall) with insulating material. Garden taps and installed irrigation equipment should be drained as they can extend their life.
Attention was also drawn to when the weather begins to improve after the great cold, it is worth checking the water meter. If the star wheel does not turn when the tap is open or the water meter glass is broken, the meter is deformed or the water does not flow into the apartment, the service provider should be notified.
Any water leak that occurred in the network after the point of service will be charged to the user’s account because the loss was caused by a failure of the network in their possession, they said.
