He called on opposition Hungarian MEPs (EPs) to a conciliation on Monday before the debate on the EU budget at Sunday’s online press conference with Socialist MEP István Ujhelyi.

The politician said of the planned online consultation: he wants the opposition, “pro-EU” Hungarian MEPs to have a common opinion and a “task force” in the European Parliament in the coming weeks. He explained this by the fact that the President of the European Commission is expected to publish the amended budget proposal for the period 2021-27 on Wednesday, after which a great debate and a battle of interests will begin for the distribution of funds, MTI appointment.

He emphasized that it was in the interest of all Hungarians that Hungary could get “the largest slice of pie possible” from the next EU framework budget for the next seven years. Therefore, he calls for a solution in which Brussels does not punish Hungarian citizens, but “takes away the assets of the Hungarian government”.

He suggested that joining the European Public Prosecutor’s Office should be a consideration when allocating the budget for the next seven years. And if a government in a Member State violates common values and norms, or does not spend EU money on what European taxpayers contribute, Brussels will establish a mechanism to decide the centralized distribution of money.

The socialist politician also asked: Brussels should create the opportunity for cities or regions to obtain EU funds directly, for example from Budapest, Szeged, Miskolc or Pécs, but also from Érd or Kübekháza.
