The Pope celebrated his traditional Easter Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican and then gave an apostolic blessing to Rome and the world. In his speech, Pope Francis called for faster delivery of vaccines, especially for poor countries, calling the armed conflicts and armaments during the epidemic downright scandalous. Instead of the usual weight of one hundred thousand, now only approx. 200 people attended, but millions followed the live broadcast of Urbi et Orbi.

Pope Francis asked God for consolation for the sick, the bereaved and the unemployed, and he encouraged the authorities to provide just care to the families most in need.

He praised health workers and drew attention to the need for everyone to overcome the epidemic.

He called on the entire international community to commit, in a spirit of global responsibility, to getting vaccines everywhere, as soon as possible, especially in the poorest countries.

The Pope, who has repeatedly called for disarmament and a total ban on nuclear weapons, said: “There is still too much war and too much violence in the world! The Lord is our peace, help us to overcome the mentality of war. “

The Catholic archbishop also spoke about specific areas of conflict.

Specifically, he praised the youth of Myanmar, who are “committed to supporting democracy and making their voices heard peacefully.”

Francis called for peace in various parts of Africa, including the Tigré region in northern Ethiopia and the Cabo Delgado province in Mozambique. He said the Yemen crisis was “a deafening and scandalous silence.” He also called on Israelis and Palestinians to “rediscover the power of dialogue” to reach a two-state solution in which both can live together in peace and prosperity.
