There was a lot to look forward to from this year’s US presidential election, but perhaps not that it will all turn into a low-cost Mad Max movie at one point. And almost that happened on Saturday when
Trump fans surrounded the Biden campaign bus on the Texas Freeway with 100 trucks equipped with Trump flags and tried to prevent it from reaching Austin.Members of a team called just “Trump’s cavalry” by a Daily Beast reporter screamed and yelled at all kinds of pigs at the passengers of the field bus, then slowed the entire convoy to about 30 mph in the middle of road. They probably also wanted to stop the bus, which failed, but according to Biden’s campaign staff recordings, they also went to one of the cars accompanying the bus.
The campaign team eventually notified the police, so the bus escorted the bus to Austin. However, due to the incident, the campaign event scheduled for Saturday was finally canceled. The campaign team said Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden and vice presidential candidate Kamala Harris were not on the bus, with members of that campaign team and congressional candidate Wendy Davis traveling.

Texas will be paramount in Tuesday’s presidential election, even here the choice could be decided. This is a huge state with a massive 38 electoral votes that Republicans have easily pocketed in recent decades. Now, however, Trump is only leading against Biden, with Fivethirtyeight predicting that Trump will lead only from 50.4% to 48.6%, so it is not entirely out of the question that the Democratic candidate for the first time since 1978 could get more votes here. Additionally, a record number of early votes were cast in the state, more than at the time of the 2016 election combined. This can also be a huge red flag for the Trump campaign, as there are generally more Democrats among early voters. (Daily Beast, CNN)
