Today, Congress will count the electoral votes in the United States and then validate Joe Biden’s victory in the 2020 presidential election. The procedure has begun and Vice President Mike Pence has announced that he will not block the appointment of Joe Biden. Update: The meeting was suspended due to a robbery at the Capitol.

Donald Trump supporters staged a protest against the appointment of Joe Biden in Washington DC, with the president himself participating in the rally.

Police set up barricades around the Congress building, the Capitol, but protesters broke the cordon and attacked police.

The Capitol was closed and two buildings were evacuated around it.

Trump supporters stormed the building and entered the Capitol, where they now fight the police guarding the building.

Update: The session of Congress during which Joe Biden would have been declared victory in the presidential election was suspended and the evacuation of the parliamentarians began. Vice President Mike Pence and Senator Charles Grassley have already been evacuated to a “safe place.”

Update (2nd): President Trump called on his supporters for peace, saying that police officers are, in fact, “the biggest supporters in the country.” Several politicians are already talking about “rebellion” and “revolution,” including Republican Sen. Mitt Romney, who called the whole thing “Trump’s mistake.” The shots do not rumble, objectively it is almost impossible to speak of revolution at the moment.

Update (3rd): Protesters damaged the Capitol, smashed glass and doors. The mayor of Washington DC announced the curfew.

Update (4th): Protesters are currently besieging the Chamber of Deputies, which has been blocked by the police with various pieces of furniture. They also pulled out a gun, trying to protect the meeting room.

The protesters entered the Senate Chamber.
