In Slovenia, the number of known coronavirus infections increased by five in one day, the same as the previous day, to 1,439, the lowest number of cases in a month. In the past 24 hours, one person has died from Covid-19 disease, bringing the death toll from the epidemic to 94.
Since the outbreak, 55,020 coronavirus tests have been conducted in countries with two million inhabitants. Of the diagnosed patients, 60 are in the hospital and 21 of them are cared for in an intensive care unit.
Another demonstration took place in Ljubljana on Friday night. This time, 3,500 people demonstrated against the government and the measures it took. Participants in an organized social media rally surrounded the bikes and walked on foot in front of the parliament building and demanded the government’s resignation.
Aleksandra Golec, a Ljubljana police spokesperson told the Slovenian news agency that the protest had not been announced and that the organizers were not known. Police have launched an investigation into suspected misconduct and crime.
The Slovenian press wrote that several of the protesters wore a face mask, but many did not follow community distance rules. In Slovenia, gatherings of more than five people are still banned due to the coronavirus epidemic.
In neighboring Croatia, the number of registered infections increased by three in 24 hours, six fewer than a day earlier, by 2088. Only two counties, Osijek-Baranya and Split-Dalmatia counties, registered new infections. With two deaths in the last day, the number of deaths has risen to 77. Since the first infection appeared just over two months ago, 1,463 patients have been declared cured. Currently 239 patients are being treated in hospital, 17 of which are on ventilators. To date, 37,567 coronavirus tests have been conducted in four million countries.
As the spread of the new coronavirus has also slowed significantly in Croatia and Slovenia, governments will gradually loosen restrictions and restart the economy starting in late April, under strict precautions. (MTI)
