Due to the uncertainties caused by the epidemic situation, employers and employees have not yet reached a common denominator on increasing the minimum wage and the guaranteed minimum wage in 2021. Negotiations will continue in January at the Permanent Consultation Forum on Competition and Government ( VKF), writes the Ministry of Innovation and Technology (ITM).

The VKF met 24 times in 2020, of which the meeting agenda after five years included setting the next year’s minimum wage and the guaranteed minimum wage. The negotiations did not lead to an agreement, despite the fact that the proposals of employers and employees did not crumble in an insurmountable way.

The deal was mainly hampered by economic uncertainties due to the coronavirus. The parties will continue working in January to reach a compromise solution.

According to last year’s salary agreement, the minimum wage and the guaranteed minimum wage increased by 8 percent in 2020. The gross amount of the minimum wage is 161 thousand HUF as of January 2020, which is more than double the level of 2010 of 73,500 HUF.
