The virologist spoke about the situation of the Hungarian epidemic: it will be even worse

Vaccine developers around the world compete over time, not by chance: this is the only definitive way to curb the epidemic. There are currently 130 vaccine development projects underway around the world. Of these, 30 are in the clinical trial phase and 6 are already in the third phase, which, as the virologist Ferenc Jakab states in his ATV Start program, is already approaching the target line.

Preliminary results from these third-stage vaccines are expected later this year and early next, Jakab said. As far as he knows, the Hungarian government has linked 5 million doses to the Oxford vaccine in England, which is one of the 6 developments of the third phase.

The virologist hopes that the vaccination program in Europe can start in the first half of 2021.

According to James, the infection figures in recent days are really high, but he warns that it will be even higher. Fall and winter surround us, the height of upper respiratory infections. Thus,

if the increase is already at this level in the summer, we can expect an even more drastic increase in the last phase of the year

According to Ferenc Jakab, a very important change is the decrease in the average age of those infected. In spring he was 64 years old, but now it has dropped to 31 years, so the number of deaths has not increased. However, as several experts, Ferenc Jakab drew attention: in 4-5 weeks this will change.

According to the profession, there is so much slippage between the number of cases and the increase in the mortality rate that after that time it moves from the younger population to the older group, unless we oppose it. The population has a great responsibility in this, explained Jakab.

He emphatically stated that the entire epidemic can only be ended with a safe and effective vaccine, and only if at least 50 percent of the population is vaccinated.
