The epidemic curve in Italy is booming, and the number of patients who die in one day falls below 200, according to Civil Defense data on Saturday night. At the same time, the streets were crowded with people walking and the opening of stores was carried out in several provinces, writes MTI.

The death toll was 194, down from 243 the previous day. With this, the number of deaths from the epidemic reached 30,395. The last time the number of deaths in a day fell below two hundred on May 4, which was extraordinary at the time, it was not that low since mid-March. In seven Italian provinces, compared to yesterday’s five provinces, no patient has died in the last 24 hours.

The number of active infections decreased by more than three thousand after 1663 recorded a day ago. The number of active patients is currently 84,842. Eighty-two percent of them are in home quarantine. Now the number of healed has exceeded one hundred thousand. Including both the cured and the dead, the number of diagnosed infections reached 218,268. In Lombardy, a focal point, the number of deaths in one day fell to 85 after the previous 94. The number of active infections increased by 502 compared to the previous 609.

As a result of the sharp downward curve of the epidemic, the streets of Italian cities were filled with pedestrians. On the first weekend after the easing of precautions, which started on May 4, despite tight controls, the boardwalks of Naples were filled and the streets of Rimini on the Adriatic coast were similarly filled in summer, while the beaches remained closed. Only a fraction of the walkers wore a face mask.

Trentino-Alto Adige in the north and Friuli Venezia Giulia, as well as the southern province of Calabria, did not wait for the resumption of trade scheduled for May 18, but opened stores earlier. According to health authorities, the data for the second half of May should wait to assess the epidemic situation after the restart.
