The shark came, only the surfboard had a chance

Local police were alerted in the morning to Cable Beach, where a 55-year-old man had been pulled out of the water by a shark.

An attempt was made to rescue the seriously injured man, but he died at the scene. Police said that half an hour after the attack, arriving police officers shot a shark that was still floating near the shore.

The shark species has yet to be identified, but locals say the tiger shark may have been the attacker because they often come ashore to hunt smaller fish.

Police were informed that the victim was lying in the waves 30-40 meters from shore when the shark attacked him. A couple from the shore saw that he was in trouble, they ran to his aid and pulled him out of the water. The man was injured in the legs and arms.

The last time a shark attack was reported was in Western Australia on October 9, when a surfer was caught by a shark near Esperance. The man’s body could not be found even after three days of investigation, only his surfboard and pieces of his surf clothing were found.
