Liverpool have announced on their official website that Virgil van Dijk’s injured knee against Everton needs to be operated on. The defending champion of the English championship has not set a date foreseen for the return of the Dutch defender; they just write, hope, that he can return as soon as possible after rehab.

As previously reported, Liverpool played a 2-2 draw with city rivals Everton. In the fifth minute of the match, after a free kick taken by the visitors at sixteen, the local goalkeeper, Jordan pickford kicked it Virgil van Dijket. The ugly scene could have brought a penalty and a red card, but while the Dutch player was on the prowl, a free kick followed.

Van Dijk, however, had to be replaced after the incident, and English newspapers began to articulate even before the match broke out that the 29-year-old defender was in serious trouble. Referring to information from beIN Sports, it was stated that Van Dijk had suffered a cruciate ligament rupture and could therefore be left with a gap of seven to eight months, which means that he could re-enter the field in May. 2021 at the earliest.
Liverpool confirmed the injury on the night of Twitter and on its official website, with such clarification that it was not the front cruciate ligament but the rear that injured his knee.
The club’s announcement does not mention the expected return, it simply indicates that the surgery will be carried out shortly, after which Van Dijk will begin rehabilitation work immediately.
