The new law, according to which the decree-law will be valid for up to 90 days, which means it has a specific time limit, was approved by parliament with 180 votes in favor, one against on Tuesday. The independent Sándor Székely voted against him, who justified his move by saying that the government abused its authority in the spring and took contradictory measures. According to a report from the portal, the opposition factions that support the empowerment law highlighted that they had received a sufficient guarantee from the government when setting a deadline.

According to the law voted:

  • An interim election cannot be scheduled until the day after the end of the emergency, elections already scheduled will be lost.
  • No national or local referendums can be started until the day after the end of the emergency, the national and local referendums already scheduled will be lost.

As we reported, Viktor Orbán announced a further adjustment on Monday, which was as follows:

  1. there will be a curfew between 8:00 pm and 5:00 am, except to go to work and in exceptional cases;
  2. all meetings are prohibited;
  3. restaurants are closed, home delivery is only possible, except for factory canteens;
  4. shops, barber shops and other small craft service providers close at 7 pm;
  5. hotels can only accommodate business guests, not tourists;
  6. a general ban on events will come into force;
  7. up to ten can attend family reunions and private events;
  8. weddings can only be organized without a wedding, with the participation of witnesses, parents, siblings;
  9. up to 50 people can attend funerals;
  10. sports matches can be held behind closed doors;
  11. individual sports are possible outdoors, but amateur team sports are prohibited;
  12. leisure facilities, fitness rooms, indoor pools, museums, theaters and zoos are closing;
  13. higher and secondary education can only operate online, higher education universities must be closed;
  14. kindergartens, kindergartens, primary schools remain open;
  15. employees of educational and health care institutions will be assessed weekly (with rapid tests);
  16. if the hotels do not lay off employees, reservations until November 8 or 80% of them in the first 30 days after closing will be reimbursed by the state;
  17. no contribution is paid for employees of restaurants and leisure facilities during these 30 days, here the state reimburses half of the employees’ salary.

It is important to note that the detailed rules will be revealed in the Hungarian Gazette, with the publication of which the government awaited today’s vote in parliament.
