The new electric Dacia has just 45 horsepower, but Hungarian customers are flocking for it.

With state support, the Spring is cheaper than most gas-powered cars and its range doesn’t seem dangerous either.

Dacia announced last week that its first electric car, which will arrive next year, can be ordered with an upfront payment of 100,000 HUF. Although the price of Spring was not announced at the time, the 100 cars of the Hungarian allocation from 2021 domestic customers rushed for hours.

It could be assumed that it would be the cheapest electric car on the market, but perhaps not even the pre-computers expected that, after discounting the 2.5 million state aid that could be obtained through the contest, They will receive it for only 3.99 million HUF. It is important to know that for the moment, the national Dacia importer only guarantees this favorable base price to buyers of the first 100 copies, but it is likely that the cars in the 2022 quota are not significantly more expensive either.

Thus, the Spring is almost a million guilders cheaper than the current cheapest four-seater electric car on the market, the Smart EQ Forfour, while its range is one and a half times longer and the passenger compartment and boot are more spacious, the latter, for example, 300 liters. True, so is Dacia offers only four seats, and its engine is much weaker than the 82-horsepower Smart.

No one should be surprised by the 3.73 meter long spring shape as Almost nothing has changed compared to the study released in the spring. The small city crossover is, in fact, nothing more than the European version of the Renault City K-ZE available in China since last year.

With plastic inserts, a roof rail, and a substantial 6-inch headroom, it made it look like a collapsed SUV in a wash. The orange inserts and split headlights look good with the Y-shaped LED daytime running lights, but the 14-inch wheels seem small for big bike rides.

The Dacia will receive the same 45 horsepower, 125 Nm electric motor and 26.8 kWh lithium-ion battery as Renault in China, but its top speed has been raised from 105 to 125 km / h. When used in Eco mode, its power is reduced to 31 hp and its top speed is reduced to 100 km / h, however, its range is improved by 10 percent (it is likely to achieve the factory-specified WLTP of 225 km).

As with all electric cars, of course, you don’t have to clutch and shift gears on the Sprint, you just need to select the direction of travel using a rotary switch on the center console. It is not yet known if there will be stopping power in the car.

How long does charging take?

About a traditional point of sale for the home It will be possible to charge the battery in 14 hours, but with a 7.4 kW wall charger this time can be reduced to less than 5 hours, and with a 30 kW DC fast charger to less than 1 hour. With the MY Dacia mobile app, owners can preset the cabin temperature, check the battery charge level and even start and stop charging when the cable is already connected to the car.

How is the team?

Unsurprisingly, knowing the affordable price, the base kit includes only the most essential items, such as variable power steering, remote central locking, four power windows, ESP, six airbags, and radar emergency brake assist. According to the press release, the latter operates at up to 170 km / h, which is a funny figure given the actual top speed.

There is also a surcharge for the spare wheel, cruise control, manual air conditioning, rear parking sensors, and reversing camera. Navigation and a 7-inch color touchscreen are extras too, but whoever orders it will also get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, a digital radio, a Bluetooth speaker, a USB port, and voice recognition.

Dacia will produce three versions of Spring. First, simply-equipped faux leather seats for car-sharing providers will arrive in the first half of 2021, and then cars for private buyers in the fall of 2021. The third version is the two-seater commercial vehicle version, which has a cargo space of 800 liters, 1033 mm long and a load capacity of 325 kg.

According to Dacia, despite all the cost aspects of owning a car (purchase and maintenance), the Sping will be the cheapest new car on the market, which is credible given the low expected service requirements, the price of electricity in home and the benefits of a green license plate. The factory offers a 3-year / 100,000-kilometer warranty for the entire car and an 8-year / 120,000-kilometer warranty for the battery.

It is very likely that Spring will thoroughly redesign the electric car market not only in Hungary, but throughout Europe. The only real weakness of the small car, which can still be used in size and range, is the engine power with spray, but for those who will only use it in the city, it will probably not be a serious problem.

This will be the electric car of the Renault people

In addition to the Dacia Spring, the Renault Mégane eVision also made its debut at the French automaker’s online press conference. Intended to be a competitor to the Volkswagen ID.3, which will arrive in late 2021, the nice study car, built on the same new dedicated electric platform (CMF-EV) as the Nissan Ariya, gives an idea.

A lithium-ion battery with a capacity of only 60 centimeters and a capacity of 60 kWh is installed on the floor of the car, which provides a range of 450 km and can charge up to 130 kW. The front-wheel drive electric motor is 220 horsepower and has a torque of 300 Nm, but the production car is expected to be available with a range of motors and batteries, and a full-wheel version will be made.
Although the 4.21-meter-long study car is 15 inches shorter than the current Mégane, the cabin is said to be more spacious due to the minimal space required for electric propulsion.

Luca Di Meo, Seat’s new Renault driver, says the Mégane’s eVision shape is 95 percent representative of his production car. Only the wheels are likely to be replaced with smaller ones and the lights are simpler, and the camera mirrors may not stay the same.
