He ran as a candidate in the 1990 and 1994 parliamentary elections. He was included in the Nyíregyháza general assembly in the 1994 municipal elections. He obtained a seat in Nyíregyháza in the 1998 parliamentary elections. From September 1999 to December 2000, he was the deputy leader of the MSZP faction. In 2002 he defended his individual mandate in Nyíregyháza.
