The hospital system was reorganized by the government

With reference to the emergency situation, the government organized a significant part of the Hungarian national hospitals and institutes into a new system as of January 1, 2021, with government decrees published in the Hungarian Gazette on December 29. Professional management is exercised by the General Director of the National Hospital, Zoltán Jenei, who is also competent in various budget decisions.

In Budapest and the county of Pest, the government decided to establish three of the so-called main central hospitals, under which it classified the previously independent hospitals. The three central hospitals are the South Pest Central Hospital – National Institute of Hematology and Infectious Diseases, the North-Central Buda Center, the New St. John’s Hospital and Clinic and the Szent Imre University Hospital.

A South-Pest Central Hospital – National Institute of Hematology and Infectious DiseasesIt now belongs to the Bajcsy-Zsilinszky Hospital and Outpatient Clinic, the Jahn Ferenc South-Pest Hospital and Outpatient Clinic, the Péterfy Sándor Street Outpatient Hospital and Clinic, the Toldy Ferenc Hospital and Outpatient Clinic (Cegléd) and the Nagykőrös Rehabilitation Hospital.

According to another regulation, while the emergency lasts, the Honved Hospital The Péterfy Accident Center, the Jávorszky Ödön Municipal Hospital in Vác, the Károlyi Sándor Hospital in Budapest, the Pest County Flór Ferenc Hospital in Kistarcsa and the Uzsoki Street Hospital will be under his control.

The government also provided national medical institutions, of which six remained after their reorganization, under which additional medical institutions were transferred.

National medical institutions:

György Gottsegen National Institute of Cardiology, under whose authority the State Heart Hospital Balatonfüred came,

Pál Heim National Institute of Pediatrics,

Korányi National Institute of Pulmonology, under the direction of the Törökbálint Pulmonary Medical Institute and the Veszprém County Pulmonary Medical Institute,

National Institute of Musculoskeletal – was established by the merger of the National Institute of Rheumatology and Physiotherapy and the National Institute of Medical Rehabilitation, and the Parádfürdő State Hospital is under their administration,

The National Institute of Oncology is under the control of the Mátra Medical Institute.

The head of the national medical institution and the national joint medical institution are appointed and removed by the Minister of Health on the proposal of the Director General of the National Hospital.

Professional supervision of national institutions is exercised by the head of the newly created General Directorate of the National Hospital (currently Zoltán Jenei), who also makes administrative decisions on the budget. Investments by health institutions above HUF 5 million are evaluated by the Director General and the Minister of Health for more than HUF 50 million.
