The Greek government announced on Friday what extraordinary rules are expected for tourists this year in light of the epidemic. The government is trying to balance it, as on the one hand, the country urgently needs tourism revenue and, on the other hand, it must ensure that the great coming and going does not destroy the epidemic.
Aircraft departing for Greece can only be boarded with a negative coronavirus test that is no more than 72 hours old. This is verified at check-in. (There are airports where passengers can be tested on-site, in Vienna, for example, for a € 190 test in two or three hours).
On flights of less than 4 hours, food cannot be served, passengers can only receive pre-packed snacks at the factory. However, it was not prescribed that empty spaces be left in the machines.
Greek hotels will need to hire their own coronavirus consulting doctor, who will be available at all times to monitor guests who are causing symptoms. If a hotel crown doctor prescribes a test for a guest, the test must be done within six hours.
Quarantine hotels will be established where tourists can stay with positive results. They have to finish their holidays in these hostels.
Hotels can open in June, otherwise only in summer in July.
Buffets were banned and hammocks were placed at appropriate distances from each other on the beaches, and the loungers were separated in some cases by mobile walls and awnings.
Hotel staff need training on how to clean and behave in this situation.
Tourists returning home are not controlled and the government is trying to reach bilateral agreements with other countries so that returnees are not quarantined in their homes. There is also talk of designating so-called safe tourist areas, where the Greek authorities guarantee that no one can get the virus, they control the area so strictly. (Greekcitytimes.com)
