The government will spend 204 billion HUF on the construction and operation of the National Athletics Stadium, the bicycle and pedestrian bridge and related facilities, 24.hu writes referring to the Hungarian Gazette on Friday.

The capital will host the World Athletics Championships in 2023, though the plan isn’t particularly popular with city dwellers anyway – 43 percent don’t support the show at all, but that number could go up to 60 if it costs too much. And it seems to cost quite a bit, partly because a complete athletics competition center needs to be built in the adjacent parts of Ferencváros and Csepel.

The 40,000-million stadium and related facilities, according to the article 24, will raise more money than the Puskás Arena, which consumed only 190,000 million HUF in public money.

Doubts have already been raised about the use of the Puskás, but if possible, it is an even bigger question of what the National Athletics Stadium will be used for after the world competition.

Only invited companies, five in total, will be able to participate in the public procurement procedure.

The newspaper writes that PwC estimates 166,000 visitors and 416,000 tickets sold. The total cost of the deal will be approximately HUF 30 billion. (24.hu)
