Tamás Schanda, Deputy Minister for Innovation, said that in 2010 we promised to create 1 million new jobs, which we did, but the coronavirus has a devastating effect on the job market and Hungarians’ livelihoods are at stake. We have no reason to go in a different direction when facing the crisis, Hungarians can and want to live from work. We need to protect as many jobs as possible, and as much as the virus destroys, we create as much.
There are a total of 163,000 Hungarians who have turned to the government for help, unemployment benefits or support. Our goal is for them to get jobs, if not for companies, for the state, said Schanda, who reminded us of the wage subsidy system.
So far, a total of 2,953 employers have applied for wage subsidies for nearly 54,000 employees, application processing is ongoing and agencies decide on applications quickly and within 8 days. Most of the requests come from Budapest and Pest County, but Hajdú-Bihar County and the Great Southern Plain are also in an exclusive location. Almost 30% of workers in commerce are 13.5% in manufacturing, and almost the same number works in hospitality.
