Although Prime Minister Gergely Gulyás promised three weeks ago that legislation on the assessment of 100 percent of sickness benefits would be simplified in coronavirus cases, this promise has so far not been kept, writes Népszava. The question arose in relation to the teachers’ illness.

The minister said that all educators infected with the coronavirus must assume that they have caught the virus at school, so an amendment to the law would be initiated so as not to decide in two procedures that someone would receive 100 percent of the pay for disease in such cases.

Those who are forced to pay for illness due to a coronavirus infection – not just educators but also workers in other sectors – can currently receive 100 percent of sick pay in two installments – 60 percent of their salary in the first round and the remaining 40 percent only after a long and bureaucratic as a result of the procedure, it is found that the virus has infected them in their workplace, that is, it should be considered as an occupational disease.

According to the Prime Minister, they will continue to act in accordance with current regulations. At the same time, government agencies were instructed to carry out labor procedures as quickly as possible. With regard to educators, it was added that in the case of all infected educators working in an educational institution, it should be assumed that the employee was infected while working, so the school coronavirus infection is considered an occupational disease.
